Communication sessions – Selected papers

“Patterns in disarray” will gather artists, curators, researchers, art critics, and students at the Paço das Artes, São Paulo, Brazil, in early August 2005 to discuss the state of contemporary art through an inspection of the art system and current art making strategies.

Supporting the emergence of a new generation of art researchers, we invite artists, critics, and students to submit a paper for the communication session of the conference. We will select eight innovative and unpublished papers that shall discuss the state of contemporary art through a reflection on the following subjects:

- the intertwining of artistic production and cultural politics

- symbiosis, conflicts, contradictions between art and market

- independent actions and art collectives

- contemporary art and art institutions

- institutions and other agents of the art system: between the public and the private domains

- poetical aspects of contemporary artistic production

- art and technology

- art, media and communication industry

- art and politics

- contemporary art and the History of Art

- contemporary art criticism

- appropriations, hybridism and the blurring of boundaries

- Brazilian art: local or international?

or any other provocative theme that answers the question: How is contemporary art doing?

Each presentation will last 20 minutes and should be based on a 1500-word text (about six pages in font Times New Romam 12pt, double-spaced)

The selection of papers will consider the full text, which must be sent in .doc, .pdf or .rtf format to

 comunicacoes@forumpermanente.org

along a brief resumé and an abstract.
