Beto Shwafaty

Artista e pesquisador, possui mestrado em Artes Visuais e Estudos Curatoriais pela Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (Milão, 2008-2010); frequentou o grupo de estudos em escultura e pesquisa contemporânea com Simon Starling, na Staedelschule (Frankfurt, 2010-2011). Beto esteve envolvido com práticas coletivas, curatoriais, e espaciais desde o início dos anos 2000, desenvolvendo assim uma prática artística baseada em pesquisas sobre espaços, histórias e visualidades, com a qual procura conectar formalmente e conceitualmente questões políticas, sociais e culturais convergentes ao campo da arte. Beto Shwafaty is a visual artist based in São Paulo. He holds a degree in Visual Arts from UNICAMP (2001) and graduated from Nuova Accademia di Belle Art - Milano, with an M.A. degree in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies (2010). His interests resides in the converging fields of critical design, spatial politics, knowledge economy and visual culture. In the last years he had undertaken collaboratively as solo experiences integrating art shows, cultural projects, publications and exhbitions, such as: Elephant Collective (2005/2007), GRID Collective (2008), Disobedience Archive (2008), No Order Magazine (2009), Archive Books (2009). He has exhibited at 4th Architecture Biennial Rotterdam (2009, Urbaninform Platform); 3rd Utrecht Manifest (2009); Public Turbulence at Isola Art Center (Milan), The Building: E-flux Berlin (2009); co-author of the docufilm São Paulo City Tellers, directed by Francesco Jodice for the 27th São Paulo Biennial (2006). Recently he started to develop the web platform www.translados.org a platform for researching, discussing and reflecting on contemporary art and its relations to society (May 2010). In Brazil he had participated in exhibitions as Rumos Artes Visuais Itau Cultual (2006); 6th Goias Art Exhibition (2006); 31th SARP (2006), CCSP annual program of exhibitions (2008), among others. www.shwafaty.art.br
