NYU Abu Dhabi seeks to appoint an innovative and accomplished professor of Art History with expertise in the art, architecture, and visual cultures of South Asia to complement existing faculty specializations at NYU Abu Dhabi and throughout NYU globally. Scholars working in any medium, sub-specialization or period will be considered, but preference may be given to those working in pre-modern periods. This is an open-rank search for a tenure-track or contract appointment in Art History.

We are seeking a scholar who will maintain an active agenda of research, have publications appropriate to their rank, and have a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching. The newly re-named Art and Art History program allows students to specialize in Art History or Art Practice and also offers courses in Museum and Heritage Studies. Our students acquire skills in analyzing artistic techniques, in understanding the contexts of art-making, and in best practices of museum scholarship. Please visit the program website for more information.

The terms of employment are competitive and include housing subsidies and educational subsidies for children. Members of NYU Abu Dhabi standing faculty receive generous support for research and travel. The teaching load is three undergraduate courses per year (semester system), including at least one in the core curriculum. Faculty may also spend an occasional semester post-tenure at NYU New York and sites of the global network, engaging in both research and teaching opportunities. The appointment will begin as soon as September 2015, with a later start date possible, pending candidate availability.

Review of applications will begin on November 1 and continue until the position is filled. To be considered, candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, cover letter, statements of research and teaching interests, twenty-page writing sample or representative publications, and three letters of reference, all in PDF format. Senior candidates are not required to submit references at this time. Please click here to visit our website for instructions and other information on how to apply.
