Patterns in Disarray: Contemporary Thought in Art


The First Paço das Artes International Conference

The conference will last for four days, from Sunday (August 7th) to Wednesday (August 10th) and will cover the following activities:

1) Keynote speeches on Sunday afternoon and the following two mornings (Monday and Tuesday), with a Brazilian and a foreign speakers. The keynotes will be followed by debates.

2) Round Tables in the afternoons

3) Communication Sessions at the end of the day. The papers will be unpublished works by researchers, artists, and students, selected by the program Committee. Check the Call for papers.

4) Reports about all the modules of the conference.

5) Publication of  the papers and lectures.

All participants will attend the keynotes. After lunch, a third of the audience will attend the debates, while the other two-thirds will choose one of the round-tables. The communication session will happen after the debates and round-tables.

On the last day of the conference, all the participants will have a chance to know what happened in the activities they didn't attend, through a series of lectures reporting the main discussions of each module.

The conference will take place at Paço das Artes and also on the internet in real-time. For that, we count on the kind support of Canal ContemporâneoUOL, and the academic and technological support by the University of S. Paulo, through the School of Communications and Arts, Information Technology Group (CTI), and Center of Electronic Computing (CCE).

At the end of each day, reports will be published here at Permanent Forum web site.

Besides the speakers, the conference will count on a group of art critics and artists who will instigate the debates, and writers who will be in charge of the reports.

The Program Committee for the Communications Session is composed of:
Martin Grossmann [associate professor, USP] and Miguel Chaia [professor, PUC] (chairs), Priscila Arantes [professor, PUC], Bia Medeiros [professor, UnB], Daniela Kutschat [professor, SENAC-SP] e Paula Braga [PhD student, USP].

The names of the speakers will be announced soon.
